FigCraft: a free, open-source Figma alternative

FigCraft is the interface design app of the Crafting Apps: an open-source, clean-room take on Figma. It has frames, auto layout with wrap and grid, components and variants, vector networks, styles, variables, prototyping, Dev Mode with React code, and live sessions. Files are plain .figcraft archives on your own disk.

The online version is the official web build from the v0.5.1 release (2026-10-12). It runs locally in your browser; a desktop browser with WebGPU or WebGL2 works best.

What FigCraft can do

Auto layout

Both directions, with wrap and grid tracks, padding, gaps, baseline alignment and Hug/Fill/Fixed sizing.

Components and variants

Instances with overrides that survive edits, component sets, properties, swap instance and an Assets panel.

Vector networks

Pen and Pencil, branching paths, variable-width strokes and editable booleans.

Variables and modes

Light and dark modes from one set of color variables.

Prototyping and Dev Mode

Connections, transitions and flows, plus ready-for-dev status, annotations and React code.

Local and private

No account and no telemetry. Live sessions are optional, over your LAN or your own server.

How to download and install FigCraft

Open the official FigCraft GitHub releases or getartcraft.com/apps/figcraft.
Windows: run figcraft-0.5.1-windows-x64.msi (or the portable zip; ARM64 and x86 builds exist).
macOS: open figcraft-0.5.1-macos-universal.dmg, which is signed and notarized for Apple Silicon and Intel.
Linux: use the AppImage, or the .deb, .rpm or Flatpak for your distro.
Optionally verify the file against SHA256SUMS.txt in the same release.

Can FigCraft open Figma .fig files?

Yes, best effort. It also imports designs exported as Figma REST API JSON, with prototypes and variables.

Is FigCraft free?

Yes. FigCraft is free and open source under MIT OR Apache-2.0. There is no subscription, no account and no telemetry.

Can I use FigCraft online?

Yes. FigCraft compiles to WebAssembly, and this site hosts the official v0.5.1 web build at artcraftsuite.org/app/figcraft/. It runs entirely in your browser, and files you open are not uploaded.

Where can I download FigCraft safely?

Only from getartcraft.com/apps/figcraft or the Releases page of github.com/storytold/figcraft. Avoid look-alike GitHub repos that offer a "local zip" or password-protected archive: they are not the official project.

Does FigCraft run on Windows, Mac and Linux?

Yes. Releases include Windows installers and portable zips (x64, x86, ARM64), a universal macOS DMG, Linux AppImage, deb, rpm and Flatpak (x86_64 and aarch64), FreeBSD builds and the web version.
